I am working in an ophthalmology office and looking at diagnosis codes to use for our patients who are having visits with the doctor as follow up after a surgery. Psuedophakia is easy enough since that one had a direct equivalent going from V43.1 in ICD9 to Z96.1 in ICD10. But what about other types of surgery to the eyes, lids, peri-orbital areas etc.
Seems like most of the literature is split with some saying Z98.89 is the catch all for eye surgery not related to cataracts. I am also hearing Z48.810 as an option. What are your offices planning to use following eye surgery?
Z98.89 - Other specified post procedural states (Personal history of surgery, not elsewhere classified)
Z48.810 - Encounter for surgical aftercare following surgery on the sense organs
Thanks!
