An NP sees a bariatric patient two weeks prior to surgery (after the initial decision for surgery has been made) for an extensive visit that mostly includes review of labs, nutrition education, and diet instructions. However, pre/post operative care instructions are also given at that time. Is the service billable? If so, could one use CPT codes 98960-98962 or an established E&M code?
