My ortho dept employs a NPP who the docs want to have do their pre op clearance exams, as opposed to sending the patient to their PCP. She used to work in Family Practice and Internal Medicine. Is this appropriate if she codes an established E/M with the appropriate pre op codes? Thanks for any and all opinions!

Sorry,
The NPP cannot bill for a pre op....Especially if she is using the same Tax ID # as the Ortho Doc....Majority of the ins co's want the pre op done by a IM or Family Practice. A consultation cpt code should be used when IM or FP bill.
