Does anyone code Preventive and E/M on the same day for the chronical stable patient presenting for Preventive Medicine? Some doctors think that it's appropriate to bill both even though the a Preventive Medicine already includes an age/gender complete H&P.

Your opinion on this is greatly appreciated.

NO IT IS NOT... Unless something else was going on with the patient during their preventative visit you wouldn't charge both. For example, the patient is coming in for her annual ck up and the day before her visit she comes down with the flu. The doc gave her a Rx and maybe drew a CBC. Therefore, that would justify a office visit and preventative on the same day.
