Scenario:

Patient presents to PCP's office for oral contraception initiation (Z30.011) and that is the only thing discussed. The patient's insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield MI.

In the past, claims have been denied stating the dx used is not a covered diagnosis with a contractual obligation write off. What do we do with these patients who solely come in just for this reason and have no other issues to discuss? There is also nothing in ICD-10-CM guidelines stating this cannot be a primary diagnosis code.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

Thank you!
