I have a question I would like some help on for a class I am teaching. A student came to me with a question from the textbook and I have read everything and can't find the answer to her question, so I am putting it out there for Help.
A DTap and an oral poliomyelitis vaccine are administered to a new 5 yr old patient. a history and examination are performed for an acute URI and the MDM was straightforward. Code all CPT codes?
She coded it as follows: 99202-25 for the E/M, 90700 for the DTap, 90474 for the oral polio and 90471 for the vaccine administration.
The student is asking me why she needs to have 90749 as a CPT code for this question. The textbook is saying it is part of the answer, but I don't see why we need to code the unspecified toxoid vaccine.
Can someone explain this to me?
