Hello,
There were new 2016 CPT codes added for x-ray of neck (72040), thoracic, (72070), and lumbosacral (72100) spine. The new codes 72081-72084 are to lump them together for (e.g.- scoliosis study). I have a patient that was in a car wreck, so they ran all three x-rays. Do I use the new 7208_ codes, or keep listing them all out separately. Thanks for any help,

spine codes

You would only use the scoliosis section of codes if that was the indication for the exam. If these were done due to a MVA and they dictate a technique for each area you would code each spine section separately according to the number of views in each area.

For example:
72040 for cervical 2 or 3 views
72070 for thoracic 2 views
72100 for lumbar 2 or 3 views

If more views were done look at higher level codes in each section.
