Hello fellow listers!

If someone has an open fracture and the fracture is fixex ORIF; however the wound is NOT closed at the time 'was impossible to close the wound because of the risk of compartment syndrome.'

Patient is then taken back into surgery for irrigation and debridement along with partial closure.

My question is..........is this closure included in the I&D? I'm thinking that it is but because of the complexity of this I'm not sure.......

Hi Tina, wound closures are not included in the I & D. This seperate closure can be billed seperately since it was not done at the time of the surgery.
