Help! I am stumped on this one...

My surgeon did a thoracotomy with resection of a paravertebral mass. An orthopedic surgeon was on standby, but no laminectomy or hemilaminectomy was necessary.

Thanks!

I'm going to take a stab...

Does the operative note support 63302?

63302=The physician removes all or part of one vertebra in the upper back that contains a lesion lying outside of the dura. The vertebra is accessed through the side of the chest cavity.

Notes:
Vertebral corpectomy (vertebral body resection), partial or complete, for excision of intraspinal lesion, single segment :

I BELIEVE THAT THE CODES 21930-21936 ARE FOR SOFT TISSUE RESECTION ONLY.
I DO NOT THINK A THORACOTOMY WOULD NEED TO BE DONE FOR THESE CPT CODES. AM I RIGHT ABOUT THAT??

NO VERTEBRA NEEDED TO BE REMOVED AS WELL.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP! DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY OTHER IDEAS?:o
