We have a residency program in a primary care exception. There are a list of CPT codes (99201,99202,99203,99211,99212,99213, G0402, G0438, G0439) which can be billed without the teaching physician’s presence. Several procedures documented in Chapter 12 100 states that the teaching physician must be present for all/parts of the procedures.
Our question is, can a resident in a primary care exception bill for services such as 99406 smoking and tobacco use cessation counseling or 96127 behavioral assessment without the presence of a teaching physician?
