I have heard, not necessarily from a reliable source, that cervical disc replacement will be combined with cervical fusion coding....

Any one else heard this, know anything about it? Or maybe its like the "circle game," where kids sit in a circle and the first one whispers a secret to the next kid, and then the next.....what it ends up being is not what it started with.

I have researched this a bit and find nothing to substantiate the "rumor" but wondered if anyone else has heard this.

Thanks!!!

Not positive, but "rumor" may be one of 22856, 22861 and 22864 (replacement, revision and removal), combined with 22554.

Like I stated Rebecca, I've only heard a rumor from a source that isn't even sure themselves and has no other information. Just trying to check it out a bit more, but have found nothing to substantiate the claim.

Thanks!!

Excerpt from an Ortho Pink Sheet...(date 5-3-10)

Afraid the rumor is true...

Revision of cervical artificial disc (22861) includes components 22220, 22505, 62291, cervical fusion (22554 and 22600) and spinal fusion (22800, 22802, 22808 and 22810), as well as 22856.

Removal of cervical artificial disc (22864) includes components 22220, 22505, 22554, 22600, 22800, 22808, 22845, instrumentation (22851), 22856, 62291, and diskectomy (63075).

I checked the NCCI edits also and 22856, 22861, 22864 are bundled into 22554

Thanks Rebecca! I am embarrassed to say I get the Pink Sheet and have not even had time to open it, much less read it for the past couple of months. I will have to make that a priority, lol, probably bedtime reading!

I have just dug it out and will review it. I don't know if this will answer the person's question or not, as I am not real clear what their particular issue is.

Again, thanks for the info, good to know anyway!!
Nice to know you had my back!!
