I have started coding sleep studies for a new client for my employer. They are billing the global fee for the sleep studies (they own the equipment and their physicians do the interps) They have instructed me that with the sleep studies, the date of service should be the date the study started. However, after researching, I'm wondering if that is correct? I've seen several places that say to bill it on the date of the interpretation (which makes more sense to me). But I have been unable to find anything definitive.

Can someone clarify this for me and also tell me where I can locate the information (the client will request the documentation supporting this)?

Thank you,
Kristin

Answer to your question

If I remember correctly there was an article covering sleep study's and also answering your question in this months magazine of Healthcare Business Monthly.

Unfortunately, it doesn't address the date of service for the global fee. It only adresses the date of service if you bill the technical or professional component.

Thank you!
