When both a NP and physician are seeing a patient, do they have to split bill the service?
If you're using both provider's work to determine the level of the visit this should be billed as a split/shared visit under the NPI of the provider who performed the "substantive portion" of the visit. No, the physician is not always the supervising physician but they are part of the same group. They are rounding together but the NP is doing the progress note.
If the physician just signs off on the PA's note, the claim goes under the PA's npi number. Does the modifier -FS still need to be applied? If you're using both provider's work to determine the level of the visit this should be billed as a split/shared visit under the NPI of the provider who performed the "substantive portion" of the visit.
