I bill diagnostic radiology,i was recently told i could not code from the Radiologist report because i bill the Technical Component. The Radiologist office can bill from the report,i would like this verified. Thank you!!!!!

Either or

I was a radiology coder for many years and I was always told we didn't have to but we could if needed. There were times when we had to because information written in the signs & symptoms field wasn't usable (a r/o, suspected, etc. but that's a whole other issue). When that happened I would wait for the report and code from the report.

Sometimes the exam is changed at the last minute or with the patient on the exam table. In those instances you can only code from the report to know what was done.
