We are having issues with our coding company in regards to THD hemorrhoidectomy and hemorrhoidopexy with ultrasound guidance coding. Per our coders the correct CPT should be “0490T”, but all of our claims are being denied because of this code being experimental. Coders refuse to replace the “0490T” with CPT codes "46945 and 46947" stating 0490T is the only correct code for this procedure.

Can somebody help me with this issue?

Yes I'm sorry this is a typo I meant 0249T. But this code is considered experimental and none of the payers pay for this code.

We just started doing the THD. They told us WPS which is our Mac. will pay for these. I have one just out to them and one out to our local BCBS of Kansas. We shall see if I get paid. Peg Smith CPC
