Hello, does anyone know what ICD10 code we should be using for sputum cytology, when the patient has United healthcare, R codes are being rejected no signs or symptoms codes, findings are negative for malignant cells, I thought i could use D code but i feel like there maybe something I am missing.

No Lucy071789,
Please do not use a D code from this information you provided. That is inaccurate. From your post sputum cytology that are negative for malignant cells. You may not code from the neoplasm table unless the index directs you there. Was there anything else definitive from the pathology report to assign a diagnosis code from that wasn't shared in your post?
Thanks,
Dana
