Hi

We billed 27702 total ankle arthroplasty, to Tufts Ins. a local MA. Ins co. we have been denied payment stating experimental. We have sent in several appeals along with written letter from Dr. Is anyone else having trouble getting paid for this code.

I havent had a problem with that particular code but of note is that some carriers have their own set of "investigational/experimental" type codes. I would check with the carrier to see if this is the case for that particular carrier. I dont understand how they can get away with these types of provisions when they codes are developed by the AMA you would think that would be enough of a "go ahead". Doesnt make sense.
