Hi All,

Can someone please help with this question? I'm new to ASC billing and I wanted to know if you can bill for transfusing patient's blood in a surgery center?

Thanks,

if you plan to use 36420, the Medicare payment indicator is P3 which means they will reimburse it.

This really is going to be based on the patients insurance carrier and your contract with the carrier because as I am sure you are well aware, just because Medicare may reimburse for some procedures, other carriers (ie Cigna) have their own set of codes and rules.

bottom line: check the contract for the carrier involved.

Hope this helps
