Does anyone have advice on how to bill for the substance (i.e. saline) when performing a trigger point injection? The amount used is very small compared to the amount listed in the CPT codes.

Thanks for your help.

you should be billing an anesthetic agent when doing trigger point inj's, not not normal saline. You'll bill a HCPCS J code for the medication along with the CPT for the injection. If the provider is not injection the amount of cc's listed in the J code description, I'd be alarmed.

Just curious. What jurisdiction are you in? In NY chiros cannot do trigger point injections.

sorry about my lack of editing on my post above....
Also, carriers are very specific on what diagnosis codes are payable for this service as well. Forgot to mention that.... Medicare has an LCD on 20552 on wpsmedicare.com
