One of our physicians asked me about using ultrasound guidance when placing labor epidurals. He heard it from some colleagues who say they are using ultrasound guidance but of course they all think they are getting paid for it. I checked the CPT book to see if there was an exclusion and I didn't see one. I know the epidural codes are changing for 2017 and also checked there. The new codes are with or without imaging guidance.

Has anyone billed for this before and did you get paid?

Thanks.

Never heard of this being done before, and I work in anesthesia for 10 years, but that's not to say someone would not do it.
So, for 2017 the Epidural CPT codes 62310, 62311, 62318, 62319 are deleted and replaced with 8 new Epidural codes. Some of these codes are with imaging, and others are without imaging. These codes are found on page 391 of AMA CPT Professional 2017 book. Good Luck.
