I am having trouble trying to figure out what ICD-9 codes you can use when billing routine venipuncture 36415. Any suggestions on how to remember what you can use with this code.

If they tell you us condition (hyperlipidemia, dm, etc) we use those codes. If they are screening for something that has a screening code we use that V code and if they don't tell us or just tell us "screening" we use V70.0.

I don't like using V70.0, in most cases there are better diagnosis codes, but we often don't have access to anything other than what the lab tells us and this is our policy.

For the most part if you know they are looking at enzymes or glucose etc use the appropriate condition code.

I hope this helps :)

:)Thank you Emily it helps a little bit. It is just too many codes for so many different things sometimes its hard to figure out what I can use and what I can't.
