Due to the 2016 CPT changes will x-rays still be allowed to be dictated in the body of the followup/progress note to be charged for or do they have to be a separate report?

I'm not sure, but my understanding is that the only real change to the x-ray codes was to take out the word "films" since very few practices actually use physical films anymore; most are now in electronic format. Other than that, I haven't heard if there needs to be changes in how providers annotate findings.

My understanding is X-rays have always required a separate interpretation report if you are billing the professional component or billing for both the professional and technical.
