Good Morning,
I have an odd scenario. Patient with CKD stage 4, status post right upper extremity AV fistula. Patient is not currently on dialysis, but physician anticipates this will be needed in the near future. Should Z99.2 be coded? "Presence of arteriovenous shunt for dialysis" is included under Z99.2, but I'm not sure if this would still be appropriate, if the patient hasn't actually started dialysis.
All input appreciated,
Laura
