ICD-10 Implementation
The Department of Health and Human Services has mandated implementation of the new ICD-10 code set by Oct. 1, 2013. ICD-10 differs from its predecessor, ICD-9, in that it contains more than 187,000 codes—more than 10 times the number of codes in the ICD-9 set. While the change to the new system will be the most challenging transition since the inception of coding, the AAPC has dedicated a team of its coding experts to develop and lead trainings for health plans, providers and facilities.
