One of my ortho surgeons did a consult in the hospital. She shows the chief complaint as: Gangrene and maggot infestation of left foot

The report states "she was found to have worm infestation to the left diabetic foot wound and wound has been present for the past year"

Can anyone help me with diagnosis code or codes?

Thanks
Cathy

Try 250.7_ ( need to know what type Diabetic if unspecified use 250.70, 785.4 and 134.0 for the maggot infestation.

Anyone else have any thoughts.

Roxanne,
Thank you! Not sure why that one was giving me such a hard time. I guess I've been dealing with fracture codes too long.:D I'm supposed to be taking the CPC exam in August and I definetely need to work on studying my ICD-9 guidelines.
Thanks again,
Cathy

No problem Cathy..., we all have that memory lapse every now and then... it's good to have others help us out.
