Doctor explanted a Verisyse IOL that was implanted for refractive correction prior to performing a phacoemulsification of cataract and IOL implant for the same eye. That seems to be incidental to the cataract surgery. I'm looking at 66984. Input would be appreciated.

Did the Doc mention that he planned to remove it prior to surgery?

I am thinking that it may not be incidental. It would be considered incidental if the doc went to do the Phaco and then made the decision to explant and there was no prior indications that he planned to remove it, but incidentally made the decision while in the OR.

Now having said that, the removal would probably bundle through CCI anyhow.

my two cents :)

I should have added this in the original posting, but the doctor hand wrote the explant procedure at the top of the op report near the pre and post op DX codes and the removal of the Verisyse IOL is not dictated in the Procedure in Detail.
