Hello!

I am currently looking into getting my CIC certification. I want to do trauma surgery coding. I've had my CPC certification for three and a half years now and have been coding for three years total. That being said, is it recommended to take the CIC course before the exam? I feel like it's necessary (for me) is since I'm only used to physician coding, but I'd like to get some opinions. I code vascular surgery (not facility) and urgent care / PCP stuff right now, but I want more variety. I always planning on getting another certification, and I'm thinking this is the one for me.

Thank you! :)

I feel you should do the CCS thru AHIMA. That's what I see employers wanting is the CCS. I've never seen them request that we have a CIC. Go to AMIHA and sign up for the CCS.
