During a recent attempt to perform a total laparoscopic hysterectomy, it was found that the trocar had perforated the bowel. A general surgeon was called in for consult, the hysterectomy was discontinued and the general surgeon proceeded with a bowel repair. Should I still bill 58571 with a modifier and use the z53.8 as a secondary code?
 
I would say that is spot on, in my professional opinion. You would just have to bill it at a reduced price. Good luck!
