Instead of hunting through contractor websites or guessing whether an ABN might be needed, you can confirm medical necessity right inside Codify.
The LCD Lookup tool makes that check quick and straightforward, giving you confidence that what you’re billing lines up with Medicare’s coverage rules before the claim ever goes out.
Here’s how to use it. From Codify, go to the Coding Tools tab and select LCD Lookup. From there, you have several ways to search. You can look up an LCD by code keyword, LCD article title or ID, the locality of the medical practice, or by contractor type. This makes it easier to match the policy to where the service is being provided.
When searching by code, it’s important to know that, starting in January 2019, CMS moved diagnosis code lists out of the LCDs and into related articles. This allows code information to be updated more efficiently when codes are added, revised, or retired. In Codify, those articles are directly linked back to the applicable LCD policy.
Once you open an LCD, you can quickly view the allowed ICD-10 diagnosis codes for the CPT® or HCPCS service. If you need more detail, you can also download the full LCD policy. This is useful for reviewing documentation requirements and any additional conditions Medicare expects to see for proper payment.
Overall, the LCD Lookup tool helps you verify coverage, support compliant billing, and avoid preventable denials by making Medicare’s medical necessity rules easy to check at the point of coding.
