The provider removes bone from a bunion, a foot deformity that causes a bump near where the big toe joins the foot. The procedure includes fusing the joint between the foot’s first metatarsal bone and the medial cuneiform bone, a bone of the middle foot located behind the first metatarsal. The provider also may remove the sesamoid bones (pea–shaped bones under the big toe joint).
