Hello coders! Please help clarify so I can settle the dispute with the NP and WHNP in my office.

A patient came in and was seen by the CMA for pregnancy test and depo injection. The pregnancy was negative. Can we bill a 99211 with the depo injection and the pregnancy test? Please explain why and why not.

Thanks!!

I'll take a shot at it (no pun intended).

The work of the 99211 is included in the depo shot which you are already billing for. There is no separate work.

Compare that to someone coming in for a blood pressure check. You don't bill for the blood pressure reading itself; you bill the 99211.

Thank you Sharon for clarifying that. Can and RN bill 99211 is the next question they are asking.
