Role Summary/Purpose This position requires skills in the research, interpretation and coding of laboratory test results into CPT codes and ICD-10 codes.

Essential Responsibilities This includes but is not limited to the following:
Performs analysis of diagnostic testing results, coding narrative diagnosis and assignment of appropriate ICD 10 codes, Identifies internal/external issues resulting that prevent the coder from completing an account, client interaction to clarify any coding issues; Escalates significant issues to the Accounts Receivable Manager for possible customer interaction; Works collaboratively with other operational units to expediently resolve outstanding receivable; Maintains strict patient confidentiality; Will need to follow the General A/R and client specific guidelines; Meet the required production and quality assurance requirements; Performs other related duties as required or requested

Qualifications/Requirements • 3 years’ medical coding experience in a laboratory setting preferably.
• Certified coder: Basic CPC (Certified Professional Coder Certification from AHIMA or AAPC) preferred
• Heavy data entry

Desired Characteristics • Some college credits or medical billing certification is preferred but not required,
• Have some experience in molecular and pathology CPT coding
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Fast learner and takes ownership in what she does,
• Ability to identify, trend and solve problems.
• Work effectively as a part of a team.
• Ability to comply with productivity and quality work standards of the unit,
• Able to perform job duties in accordance with policies, procedures and work instructions provided.
• Proficient in Microsoft products; Word and Excel specifically.
• Comfortable and confident with researching information on the internet as well as carrier websites to locate policy information.
