FAQs: Get your questions answered

What does a medical biller do?

Medical billers take the coded information provided by medical coders and use it to prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and patients for reimbursement. Billers are responsible for ensuring that medical claims are accurate, complete, and compliant with insurance regulations. They also handle tasks such as invoicing patients, following up on unpaid claims, and resolving billing issues.

How can I become a medical biller?

If you want to become a medical biller, you should complete the CPB training course so you can gain all the knowledge and skills needed for the role — and be ready to pass the certification exam. Once you pass the CPB exam, you’ll become a certified professional biller (CPB) — which lets employers know you are fully equipped to navigate the reimbursement system quickly and effectively.

Where can I work as a medical biller?

Certified medical billers can work in any healthcare setting — health systems, hospitals, physician practices, ambulatory surgery centers, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, dentist’s offices, billing companies, and others.
