April Boyce has 34 years of experience in billing, coding, chart auditing, and physician practice management. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in management and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Boyce developed an e-training video covering the 2021 E/M guideline changes which was offered to providers across her state and earned high ratings.

Ava Johnson is Associate Director of the Outpatient Clinical Documentation Quality Improvement department at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC. She is a seasoned coding instructor, physician educator, multi-specialty coder, CDI specialist, and public speaker with special focus on helping leaders and career development. As an executive leader, Johnson teaches risk adjustment coding and documentation strategies at a leading U.S. teaching hospital.

Barbara Shaw has a career spanning more than 30 years, with healthcare being her sole professional journey. She began in physician practices and moved on to a university health system, ACOs, and Medicare Advantage payers. Her roles have all been in the middle revenue cycle, and she’s been successful in fully implementing a risk adjustment team for a multispecialty group and building outpatient CDI teams. Shaw prides herself on continuing to present to AAPC local chapters monthly, speaking at a national level, and mentoring her chapter and others.

Colleen Gianatasio has over 20 years of experience in all aspects of the business of healthcare. In her current role, she is responsible for provider engagement and clinical documentation improvement for accurate coding. Gianatasio specializes in developing innovative coding curricula and instruction to support compliance with federal guidelines and appropriate reimbursement processes. She enjoys teaching a variety of coding, documentation, and auditing classes, and is president of the 2022-2024 AAPC National Advisory Board.

Dawn Carter's career in healthcare spans 28 years. She has extensive experience in developing revenue integrity and software solutions for risk adjustment, as well as SDOH. Her experience also includes multiple teaching engagements in medical administration, billing, and coding.

Donna Malone is Director Risk Capture of Population Health Management Mass General Brigham. She has been in the value-based care space for 15 years and has been coding for over 20 years. Malone has been teaching for more than 16 years and is an adjunct professor and advisor at MassBay Community College in the Medical Coding and Medical Administration Programs. She also serves as president of the Watertown, Mass., local chapter.

Jeannine Bumford has worked in the risk adjustment industry for over 12 years, beginning her journey in 2012 as a risk adjustment auditor. An experienced, goal-oriented, and innovative leader who has worked with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Marketplace business lines, Bumford is now the Director of Risk Adjustment Operations for Christus Health. She has designed and successfully implemented provider education, coding, and quality assurance programs throughout her career. Bumford lives in Waxahachie, Texas, with her husband and three girls.

Jessica Diaz has over 25 years of experience in healthcare, working in the outpatient, inpatient, and urgent care settings. Currently, Diaz is the coding manager of the Accurate Coding and Education (ACE) Department at Tandigm Health, providing documentation and coding education, as well as chart auditing, coding, and billing for a network of over 700 population health practitioners in the five-county regions of Philadelphia.

Kimberly Rykaczewski manages a team focused on providing data quality solutions by monitoring regulatory coding content and providing diagnostic and procedural mapping sets. She has over 20 years of healthcare experience in the areas of nursing, case management, utilization review, overpayment recovery, vendor management, coding and billing, risk adjustment, and regulatory compliance. One of the biggest rewards of her profession is bringing providers and payers together to achieve regulatory and coding compliance. Rykaczewski holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and is an AAPC certified professional and risk adjustment coder.

Kristen has been working in the healthcare industry for over 10 years. She has worked interdepartmentally with health plans and provider organizations to foster unique approaches for coding, documentation, and performance improvement strategies. Viviano has experience managing all aspects of risk adjustment and clinical documentation improvement initiatives with diverse teams of experts and turning data into actionable information to improve program outcomes and enhance efficiencies. After recently becoming a certified AAPC instructor, she is eager to share her risk adjustment knowledge with fellow coders and help support newer members of the coding community.

As a senior consultant and risk adjustment SME, Melissa James supports Wolters Kluwer/Health Language solutions with product development, content maintenance, and sales support. James has more than 25 years of healthcare experience in coding, billing, physician and coder education, accounts receivable cycle management, consulting, and regulatory and compliance. Prior to working at Health Language, she spent seven years in the risk adjustment space performing RADV, IPM, and OIG audits for a major Medicare Advantage Payer.

Scott Weiner is the Director of Government Programs at Sentara Health Plans. Prior to joining Sentara, Weiner was the founder of Quadralytics, a data analytic, software, and finance consulting company. Previously, he was the Senior Vice President, Analytics and Strategy at EMSI HEALTH where he focused on expanding the company’s HEDIS, Medicare Stars, Medicaid risk adjustment, and data analytics offerings to better meet the needs of health plans and other clients. Weiner has extensive executive-level and health plan consulting experience, having held managed care, risk adjustment, and data analytics positions for more than 20 years. Weiner has a Master of Business Administration from Seattle University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Central Washington University.

Sheri is managing consultant at Granite GRC Consulting, where her chief responsibilities are risk adjustment auditing, clinical documentation improvement, and training. With 28 years of experience in coding and reimbursement publishing, training, and test development, Bernard is an expert communicator of coding concepts. She is the author of the AMA publication “Risk Adjustment Documentation and Coding,” now in its second edition, and served as coding content developer at Optum360 for 15 years. Bernard served on the AAPC National Advisory Board for eight years.
