A Deep Dive Into Orthopaedic Trauma
Summary
Orthopaedic surgeons treat patients with chronic illnesses as well as acute injuries. This workshop will dive into services and procedures related to those acute injuries in Orthopaedic trauma. Many of these injuries require repairs in different organ systems. Both ICD-10-CM and CPT® coding will be discussed with hands-on coding with real cases.
What You Will Learn
- Tips on diagnosis coding from Chapter 19 of ICD-10-CM
- Proper assignment of the 7th character extension for injury diagnoses
- Open wound treatment coding
- Using the 30000 and 60000 codes for coding repairs of blood vessels and nerves
- The layout of CPT® for the musculoskeletal system for repairs and fracture treatment
Detailed Overview
Orthopaedic injuries are very common whether it involves sports activity, working around the house, motor vehicle accidents, or work-related accidents. There are so many types of injuries that many orthopaedic practices now have urgent care centers to allow patients to be treated for orthopaedic injuries instead of going to the emergency room.
Very often orthopaedic injuries involve multiple organ structures and require multiple ICD-10-CM and CPT® codes and also involve different kinds of modifiers to tell the entire story.
We will dive deep into real cases representing common injuries and treatment for later reference for the attendees. This workshop will not only look at cases utilizing CPT codes from the musculoskeletal system, but also other body systems like the integumentary, cardiovascular, and nervous system.
Attendees will have their questions answered to the complex coding related to orthopaedic trauma to tell the story by coding these cases clean the first time and thoroughly explain what needed to be done for the patient to begin healing.
