Ask & Learn: From Bones to Bladders - Surgical Protocols, Compliance and Outcomes Webinar

Learn more about this event

Orthopedics and Urology are two specialties that can be very confusing. Multiple procedures are often done during the same surgical session and it’s not always easy to know if everything can be billed together. This Ask and Learn session continues where we left off with surgical coding questions. CPT® Guidelines and NCCI edits help but it doesn’t always make it clear. In this session, we’ll answer your questions on how the guidelines, NCCI manual and edits impact coding your cases to help you choose the right codes and code compliantly. There will be something for everyone: new and experienced coders alike.

You'll have these questions answered plus many more! Come to the live webinar with your questions for the panelists

• When a bladder tumor is removed and is noted as 2.0 cm, is it coded as a small or a medium bladder tumor? 52234 for the small is for 0.5 to 2.0 but 52235 is for 2.0 to 5.0. It seems like they overlap.
• Can you bill for two fracture treatments in the same location? For example, fracture of the radius and fracture of the ulna?
• When can cystourethroscopy 52000 be billed with another procedure?
• If a patient has both lumbar stenosis and a lumbar herniated disc and the surgeon is decompressing the level as well as removing the herniated disc, do I report 63030 or 63047?
• If my surgeon is removing hardware after a fracture and makes two incisions to remove it from the radius shaft, can I report 20680 twice?

Why is this topic timely/important?

Orthopedics and Urology are two specialties where a lot of guidelines apply (CPT, NCCI manual, NCCI edits). Insurance carriers and compliance departments are both looking to make sure the coding is correct – not over coded or under coded. This session will give you confidence in your coding and provide direction on where to find official guidance to support your coding decisions.

Who would benefit from this topic?

Everyone that is involved with orthopedic or surgical coding and billing would benefit from this session. Coders, auditors, billers and preauthorization staff will find information that will answer some of their toughest questions.

Note: During this Ask and Learn, it is preferable to avoid questions about the specific codes for specific cases, but to phrase the questioning around the dilemma at hand as a way to build an understanding of how to solve the problem in future situations.
