The CMS-1500 Real-Time Scrubber lets you catch any errors before the claim ever leaves your desk. Instead of waiting for a payer rejection and reworking everything later, you can scrub the claim in real time and see exactly what Medicare is likely to flag.
Here's how it works. From Codify, go to the coding tools tab and select Real-Time Scrubber. If all your procedures are on the same date of service, you can check the box to apply that date to every line and select it from the calendar.
Next, start entering your procedure codes. For each line, add the number of units, any modifiers, and then your diagnosis codes. If you have multiple procedure lines, just repeat that process for each one.
One thing that really saves time here is Smart Search inside the scrubber.
Instead of bouncing between tools, you can click the search icon right next to any CPT®, HC PCS or ICD-ten field, filter your results, and insert the correct code with one click. It's especially helpful if you're double checking something or training a newer coder.
When you enter a CPT® code, you'll also see a modifier crosswalk button. Clicking that gives you a filtered list of valid modifiers for that specific code, so you're not flipping through references or second guessing modifier use.
Just select what you need and move on.
Once everything is entered, click 'Submit.' In seconds, the scrubber runs your claim through more than 50 validation checks, pulling in Medicare Physician Fee Schedule rules, CCI edits, LCDs, NCDs, and more. If something looks off — like an invalid code combination or modifier issue — you’ll get a clear alert with a plain-language explanation of what needs to be fixed.
If you work with the same claim types often, the claims library is another big time saver. You can save claims, reload them for edits, clone them as templates, or clean out old ones, which cuts way down on repetitive data entry.
You can also download a PDF of the results for documentation if you need it. By adding this scrubber to your workflow you can confidently submit cleaner Medicare claims the first time, reduce denials, and spend less time fixing avoidable issues after the fact. It's a win for everyone.
