Instead of digging through massive CMS NCCI tables or second-guessing modifier use, the NCCI Edits Checker lets you confirm bundling rules in one place, fast.
It’s especially helpful when you’re dealing with multiple procedures on the same encounter. You can check a whole list of codes at once and immediately see where conflicts exist, where a modifier might be allowed, and where codes should never be billed together.
Here’s how to use it. At the top of your Codify screen, click on the Coding Tools tab and select CCI Edits Checker. Right away, you’ll see two different ways to enter codes. You can use the auto-tab option and type one code per box, or you can use the multi-code entry box to paste or type a long list of codes separated by commas. That second option is great when you’re reviewing complex cases or multiple procedures.
Next, select the NCCI version date you want to check — usually the current quarter. Then choose your locality. If you work in the same region all the time, you can save that as your default so you don’t have to reset it every time. You’ll also choose whether you want facility or non-facility RVUs, which can also be saved as a default. Once your codes are entered, click NCCI Check.
Your results appear right below, starting with a color-coded key that makes everything easy to read. Green means there’s no NCCI edit, though you’ll still want to confirm payer policies. Red means there is an edit and those codes should never be reported together. Orange means there’s an edit, but a modifier may be allowed depending on the situation.
Below that, you’ll see your full results list. Codify automatically sorts everything by RVU, regardless of the order you entered the codes. For each code pair, the tool flags bundling issues, shows when modifier use is allowed, and helps make sure your coding aligns with CMS and Medicare guidelines.
If you need more detail, just click on a code to open the full code detail page. From there, you can review notes, articles, crosswalks, and even access the CCI policy manual if it’s included in your subscription. And if you need to document your review or share it with your team, you can download or print the results with one click.
Overall, the NCCI Edits Checker is one of the quickest ways to confirm compliance, reduce denials, and feel confident about modifier decisions.
