SUMMARY

Conflict is inevitable in leadership—especially in healthcare environments where regulations, productivity pressures, personalities, and high-stakes decisions intersect. The difference between effective leaders and ineffective ones is not whether conflict occurs, but how it is managed.

This highly interactive workshop equips coding, compliance, auditing, and revenue cycle leaders with practical strategies to navigate difficult conversations, competing priorities, and interpersonal tension while maintaining professionalism and trust. Participants will explore common conflict scenarios that arise in healthcare organizations—such as coder-provider disagreements, team performance issues, peer leadership dynamics, and resistance to change.

Through facilitated discussion, small-group exercises, role-based scenarios, and real-world case studies, attendees will practice techniques that move conversations from confrontation to collaboration. The workshop focuses on developing the leader’s ability to de-escalate emotion, identify root causes, frame constructive dialogue, and guide teams toward resolution.

Participants will leave with practical frameworks and communication tools they can immediately apply when addressing conflict within their teams, across departments, and in leadership environments.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the underlying causes of workplace conflict within coding, auditing, compliance, and revenue cycle teams.
  • Differentiate between productive and destructive conflict and recognize when leadership intervention is required.
  • Apply structured communication techniques to guide difficult conversations toward resolution rather than escalation.
  • Use conflict resolution frameworks to manage disagreements between staff, providers, vendors, and leadership peers.
  • Demonstrate strategies for de-escalating emotional conversations while maintaining professionalism and psychological safety.
  • Practice conflict-resolution techniques through real-world healthcare leadership scenarios to strengthen decision-making and communication skills.
