SUMMARY

Primary care providers truly see it all. From routine checkups and immunizations to managing chronic conditions—and in some rural areas—even serving as the local GYN or OB, primary care spans an incredible range of services. This diversity means coding for primary care isn’t just about well visits in CPT and it can involve nearly the entire ICD-10 book. In this workshop, we’ll focus on the core of primary care coding: Evaluation and Management (E/M) services. We’ll dive into the nuances of modifier 25, explore common services delivered during visits, and clarify documentation requirements for E/M coding. Additionally, we’ll cover best practices for coding well visits, immunizations, and the associated modifiers to ensure compliance and accuracy. There will be cases provided for the participants to test their knowledge.

Learning Objectives/Agenda:

  • A deep dive into the E/M descriptors for MDM and time
  • Modifier 25 examples
  • Medicare and non-Medicare Well visits, School/Sports Physicals and immunizations
  • Documentation and Coding for Transitional Care Management
  • Case Studies to audit/code
