Learn more about this event

The webinar will focus on hot topics in the Path/Lab space and will be beneficial for anyone who struggles with the nuances of this are of the code set. The webinar will provide an overview of the CPT Process as it relates to the generation of Path/Lab codes and will provide a detailed overview of the molecular pathology/genetic testing code set structure and format.

The course will then provide a detailed review of the molecular code set, including MoPath codes, GSPs, MAAAs (Cat I and Admin), and PLA. We will review the various unlisted codes in this space and how to properly use them. Lastly, the course will then provide several specific examples of laboratory reports and how to properly code them.

Learning Objectives/Agenda

• Explain the multi-stakeholder process of CPT code generation
• Describe the structure and organization of the Molecular Pathology Code Set
• Define and recognize a biomarker test
• Identify resources that can be used to determine the correct code for a service
• Review and properly code complex genetic testing reports

Why is this topic important?

Genetic testing, biomarker testing, and molecular pathology represent some of the fastest growing and most consequential tests being offered today. Their implications for the future of medicine are immeasurable, and they are the subject of great scrutiny. A keen understanding of these tests will be essential to functioning as a lab coder for years to come.

Who would benefit from this topic?

• Physicians/molecular pathologists
• Payers
• Auditors
• Coders who work in a laboratory
• Fraud investigators
• Hospital laboratory administrators and leaders

What is the presenter's background/expertise on this topic?
