Caren has been working in the field of medicine for over 30 years.  Her career began as US Navy Corpsman/Surgical Technician, where she was part of the surgical team at the sub base in Groton, Connecticut. Her duties included lead Ortho tech and later went on to supervise the general surgery clinic. She has worked in office settings in orthopedics, oral surgery, oncology, general and vascular surgery, and large multispecialty practices. She has been certified as a CPC since 1999, is a PMCC instructor, a past local chapter president and has worked as senior consultant/auditor for Practice Integrity, LLC as well as QA in risk adjustment for IonHealthcare.  She is also a certified ICD-10 trainer and was part of the 2015-2018 AAPC National Advisory Board.  Currently, she works for United Healthcare/Optum as a Medicare Consultant in risk adjustment.
