Peripheral coding is a comprehensive area based on proper catheter selection as well as knowledge to identify the hierarchies required for correct reimbursement. The coder must recognize when to use the endovascular revascularization codes for the procedures on the legs vs. identifying when vascular family order is appropriate along with supervision and interpretation codes. A thorough understanding of the CPT® guidelines to ensure correct coding is required. This presentation will introduce the descriptions of aneurysms, endografts, stents as they pertain to peripheral procedures required to correct aneurysms and/or occlusive problems. Attendees will be given a thorough introduction of the guidelines to ensure correct coding is applied.

Objectives:
  • -Learn the vascular anatomy of the leg
  • -Learn the usage of CPT® Appendix L
  • -Learn when to use peripheral coding vs. diagnostic procedures
  • -Learn all the guidelines pertaining to peripheral procedures
  • -Identify the Territories of the leg and how they relate to vascular family order

    Sharon has been in the medical field for 32+ years.  She worked as a Practice manager for a family practice for 13 years, for an OB/GYN clinic for 10 years and Senior In-Patient Coder for East Tennessee State University Physicians and Associates Department of Cardiology for 12 years.  Sharon also became a licensed PMCC instructor in 2005 and served on the AAPCCA Board Of Directors from 2013 to 2016.  She has also served in various chapter officer positions for her local chapter.
