If you’ve ever stared at a chart knowing what the provider meant but not quite how to search for it, this feature is for you.
Codify’s AI-powered Smart Search cuts way down on that guesswork. Use everyday language, acronyms, or full medical phrases, and let the tool do the heavy lifting for you.
It’s especially helpful when documentation is vague, complex, or uses clinical wording that doesn’t map cleanly to a single term.
Here’s how it works. Once you’re logged in to Codify, go to the main search bar and type in what you’re actually looking for. That can be a keyword, an acronym, or a natural phrase—something like seizure disorder or hepatic encephalopathy. Then just press Enter or click the search icon.
You’ll land on the search results page. From there, click on the AI Search tab to see the Smart Search results. These results pull from ICD-10-CM, CPT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10-PCS, and they include both billable and non-billable codes, so you’re getting the full picture, not just a partial list.
If you want to narrow things down, you can use the filters on the left to limit results by code set. When something looks promising, click into it to open the full code details in a new tab and review everything before you make a final decision.
Be as specific as you can, and use full phrases when possible. “Abdominal pain” will usually get you better results than just “pain.”
And if you don’t see what you need right away, flip back to the standard Codify results tab — you can switch between them anytime.
Bottom line, Smart Search saves time, reduces frustration, and helps you get to the right code faster — especially on those tougher charts we all run into.
