Coding & Billing for Services During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Era
Early in 2020, a Public Health Emergency (PHE) was declared in the United States. Not only did life as we know it changed, but, in many aspects, coding and billing of Office Visits changed as well. It has been over a year since the declaration of the PHE and we are still dealing and learning about billing for office visits and other telehealth services, but also services such as COVID-19 testing and vaccinations. This workshop will define and discuss many of the services that were defined or re-defined during the PHE that we are still under in addition to what happens when the PHE expires or is declared over.
What You Will Learn
- When did it begin and when will it end?
- Telemedicine and Telehealth services: Is there a difference?
- Synchronous and Non-synchronous services
- Billing and documentation of audio and audio/visual calls
- Store & Forward vs. Virtual Check-in services
- COVID-19 Testing – what services and codes exist today
- COVID-19 Vaccinations – Tying specific vaccinations to their administration services – what new codes have been issued
- Common mistakes many made in billing of COVID-19 services in the past year and presently
