Good morning,

I am looking for any tips to pass the CPPM exam. I scored a 56 my first attempt and a 67 my second attempt, my boss is paying for this and I really just need any advice from those that have passed the exam.

Hello, I had to really search to find any discussions involving the CPPM. This is also what I'm interested in obtaining. Have you received any tips for preparing? Did you purchase the study materials and samples? I appreciate any information.

CPPM test tips

Hi,

I took the CPPM exam in September 2018 and passed on my first try. I will be honest. It is a very challenging exam. It is 200 questions long, so there is a lot of reading involved. I did not take a course. I just studied everything that was in the study guide. Here are a few other tips that I used to pass.

1. I bought the current year's study guide.
2. I read the study guide from beginning to end and made a lot of flashcards. Read the flash cards over and over.
3. Took the chapter tests at the end of each chapter and made a flashcard for each question. I figured if it was asked on the chapter test there was a big possibility that the topic would be on the exam. I was correct.
4. I printed out the topics that would be on the exam. If you go to the certification section of the AAPC website and go to CPPM certification it will give you a list of everything that will appear on the exam. Also knowing the amount of questions for each topic helps you to know where to emphasize your studying the most. Make a flash card for every topic that is listed.
5. I bought the practice exam. I did the chapter exams and the practice exams over and over until I was able to answer every question correctly. The practice exams will give you the rationals.
6. Make sure you are very comfortable with the accounting, compliance and revenue cycle management sections of the book. The exam has a lot of questions from these sections.

There was only one question on the exam that I did not remember from the study guide. For the most part everything that is on the exam is in the study guide. A lot of the questions are very similar to the practice exam questions and the questions from the chapter exams. The questions are challenging and you do have to read the questions carefully and think about what they are asking.

I hope this helps. If you have any specific questions I would love to answer them if I can. Good luck to anyone taking this exam.

thank you!

I am looking to take this exam this summer and the tips you gave will come in handy!

I am working on my MS in Healthcare Management right now and a lot of these topics are covered in my program, but I'm not going to rely on that for this test! I plan on buying the study guide!

What is passing?

Does anyone know how many questions you have to get correct to pass? I've been studying and taking the practice exams and I am missing on average 2 questions per chapter quiz.

There are 200 questions, so I believe each question is worth 1/2 a point. You need a 70 to pass, so you can get 60 wrong. This answer means absolutely nothing if each question is worth different points, but I'm pretty sure they make it simple and make them each worth 1/2 a point.

CPPM Test

I took the test yesterday. My advice to anyone studying for this test, study The ENTIRE study guide. The test is random, no rhyme or reason to it. No clear sections. It jumps around. I will update here when I find out if I passed or not. Honestly I have no idea how I did. I studied mostly the accounting as someone posted on here to focus on that. I wish I hadn't because it was completely random.. so study EVERYTHING!

CPPM Exam

I received my results yesterday. I passed first try! YES!!! For those of you studying, my suggestion is study the entire book. Do the practice exam on AAPC and do the questions after each chapter.

Cppm

It took me 3 times to pass I read someone else's tip and she said to read the study guide from front to back over and over. That's what I did and finally passed. I also requested all of my scores to see what area I needed to focus more on that also helped.

I passed the first time however, it was a very difficult test. Basically follow MeriAnn's advice above. Bring your calculator!!! Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. I failed twice, last time by 4 points. I'm going in again! The 3rd time HAS to be a charm.

Are the accounting questions overwhelming? I know some of the information and reports but still need to brush up on others.
