Outpatient medical coders assign ICD-10-CM, CPT®, and HCPCS Level II codes to outpatient facility procedures and services, making them integral to revenue cycle management in numerous healthcare settings — hospital emergency departments, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), outpatient therapy departments, outpatient cancer centers, outpatient radiology departments, outpatient hospital clinics, and dialysis centers.

Become a Certified Outpatient Coder (COC®)

Choosing to become a Certified Outpatient Coder (COC®) is a great career choice. Not only are COCs in high demand, but they’re also one of the highest paid medical coders in healthcare, earning an average salary of $62,846 per year, according to AAPC's 2022 Medical Coding Salary Survey Report.
